Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice




What’s one thing people look forward to when autumn comes around? The food. More specifically, the desserts. Although Thanksgiving is still a month away, it’s hard not to talk about the seasonal treats that come with this time of year. Pumpkins are a huge part of autumn cuisine and that’s because September and October are the best time to pick pumpkins. There are many different recipes that are perfect for this time of year and some may seem a little unexpected.
If you ever do a search for pumpkin recipes, you’ll be met with everything from classic pumpkin pie recipes, to recipes for pumpkin pasta sauce. There are even recipes for pasta casserole and spicy pumpkin chili. Pumpkin spice itself is making its way back into restaurants as a seasonal signature favorite. Whether it be a pumpkin spice latte, shake, or cupcake, mixing ginger, nutmeg, and allspice is a great way to incorporate the beloved fall flavor into any dessert.
Fun Fact: If you ever wanted to know how much America loves pumpkins, it’s estimated that 1.5 billion pumpkins are produced in the U.S each year.
So, we’ve got our pumpkin spice, what else is nice about autumn? Well, apples are also in their prime this time of year. That’s right, bring out the apple pie recipes and the apple cider! Let’s look at what these delectable fruits have to offer. Apples are the perfect thing to add sweetness to any dish. Things like apple dumplings, apple sauce pancakes, and pork chops are a few examples of some different apple recipes. If pork chops and apples aren’t your forte then good old apple crisp is an autumn time classic. Because there are a variety of apples there are a variety of recipe possibilities. Apples not only bring sweetness to this season but also the colors of autumn.
Fun Fact: There are more than 2,500 varieties of apples grown in America. The irony is that crabapples are the only apples native to America.
So whether you like apples or pumpkins, this season has tons of great treats to indulge in. The weather may get colder and the nights longer but with the changing colors and  classic autumn recipes, there’s always something nice to look forward to.
